QUALCOMM Continues Platform Enabler Leadership With BREW Client 4-Series Release Offering Advanced Mobile Platform Functions

SAN DIEGO, June 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and mobile data solutions, today announced its new BREW(R) Client 4-Series, which delivers a new BREW Client architecture for wireless devices that meets the evolving market needs for a deeply integrated application execution environment.

BREW Client 4-Series' architecture provides a new platform and developer-facing features that will enable handset manufacturers to better collaborate with developers. Using the platform, manufacturers can now safely expose hardware and software layers to their developer partners so that new applications can be created for specific devices. Furthermore, developers will gain new content-framework support that allows for improved discovery, delivery and installation of content, as well as comprehensive support for security and digital rights management (DRM), which will allow them to focus on the user experience. Designed to bring more compelling wireless applications and services to market on a broad tier of devices, BREW Client 4-Series will reduce development costs and time to market, while meeting the increasingly complex requirements of BREW operators, device manufacturers and developers.

KDDI pioneered the use of this new innovative architecture with its KDDI Common Platform (KCP), which leveraged a KDDI-targeted BREW Client 4.0 released earlier this year, as well as QUALCOMM's Mobile Station Modem(TM) MSM7500(TM) chipset software. KCP created an integrated platform with consistent software architecture across devices, allowing KDDI's device manufacturer partners to reduce development cost and time to market.

BREW Client 4.1 is targeted for availability in the first quarter of 2008. It will include a Software Development Kit (SDK) and three release versions: Porting Kit for MSM chipsets (PKM), Porting Kit Generic (PKG), and Porting Evaluation Kit (PEK).

"BREW Client 4-Series provides an enhanced application environment that allows operators, publishers and developers to deliver improved capabilities for business, multimedia and gaming applications," said Bob Briggs, senior vice president and general manager, BREW for QUALCOMM Internet Services. "By creating more opportunities for meaningful collaboration among these critical members of the wireless value chain, QUALCOMM's ultimate goal is to deliver new and compelling applications to the wireless end user."

"Mobile devices continue to evolve, supporting increasingly sophisticated multimedia, gaming and enterprise applications that draw in the end user and create brand loyalty for device manufacturers," said Steve Mollenkopf, senior vice president of product management for QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "BREW Client 4-Series further supports device manufacturers by allowing them to leverage the new architecture and work directly with developers in creating applications specifically for their new devices."

"As the first operator in the world offering QUALCOMM's BREW Gaming Signature Solution, we are well aware of the ever-increasing capabilities of BREW," said Luigi Licciardi, senior vice president of domestic mobile and head of mobile industry relations for Telecom Italia. "With its ability to significantly enhance the capabilities of business, multimedia and gaming applications, BREW Client 4-Series will redefine what people can do with their mobile devices, both in terms of productivity and entertainment."

"BREW Client 4-Series will lay the groundwork for compelling new phone features that we can pass on to the end-user in the form of a dynamic entertainment experience," said Travis Boatman, vice president of worldwide studios at EA Mobile. "As a leading publisher of games for the mobile platform, BREW Client 4-Series will enable EA Mobile to create more complex mobile applications than ever before, which can run on the device at the same time as other applications."

BREW solutions change the way people relate to wireless data services. By enabling the discovery and delivery of high-value content, BREW creates opportunities for the wireless industry to enhance consumers' mobile data experience. QUALCOMM's comprehensive and targeted BREW Signature Solutions offer reduced time to market and lower capital investment for companies providing mobile products and services. Customers also can benefit from several modular BREW offerings, including uiOne, deliveryOne(TM) and QPoint(TM), which provide the foundation for customer-differentiated wireless data capabilities.
